quran recitation

For us to die while reciting the Qur’an as Uthman (RadhiyAllahu ‘anhu) became a martyr whilst reciting the Qur’an . Ibn Kathir said,  “Whoever lives upon something will die upon it, and whoever dies upon something will be resurrected upon it” . He based this on the verse in Surah Al-Jathiyah [45:21]  {Do those who commit evil deeds  really think that We will deal with them in the same way as those who believe and do  righteous deeds, that they will be alike in their living and their dying? How badly they  judge!}   10- For it to bring us closer to Allah by loving His words. The prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said,  “You are (on the day of judgement) with whom you  love ” [Reported in Muslim]   11- For it to increase our Iman. Allah says in Surah At-Tawbah [9:124]  {And when a surah is revealed, some of them ask “which of you did this increase him in Iman?”. As for the ones who believe, it increased them in Iman and they rejoice}   12- So that we can increase our knowledge of

WE SHOULD READ THE HOLY QURAN FOR MANY REASONS

WE SHOULD READ THE HOLY  QURAN  FOR MANY REASONS, IN FACT MORE THAN 20 REASONS, BUT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE COMPILED:   1- For it to intercede for us on the day of judgement. The prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said,  “ Recite the Qur’an  for it will come as an intercessor for its people on the  day of judgement”  [Reported in Muslim]   2- So that we can increase in reward. Abdullah ibn Mas’ud narrated the prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) mentioned that  “whoever recites one letter/word from the  book of Allah, then for him is a reward, and a reward is multiplied by ten” [Reported in Tirmidhi].   3- For it to fill our heart. The prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said,  “The man who has nothing of the Qur’an inside him is like a ruined house”  [Reported in Tirmidhi]   4- For us to memorise and act on every verse we recite so that we can ascend in Jannah. The prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said,  “It is said to the one who recites the Qur’an, recite and ascend, an

WHY SHOULD WE READ QURAN?

WHY SHOULD WE READ  QURAN ?  Alhamdulillah, and All perfect thanks and praises are due to the Almighty Allah, who has brought down the Qur’an. I send peace and blessings upon whom the Qur’an was descended upon, Prophet Muhammad, his household, his companions and all those who follow his guided path till judgement day.   The Prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said,  “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn  the Qur’an and teach it.”  And said,  “Verily actions are but by intentions, and every  person shall have (be rewarded for) what they intended”  [Reported in Bukhari & Muslim].   Maximising the intentions is the trade of the hearts of the sahabah (May  Allah be pleased with them) and the scholars, and those who know Allah very well. They used to carry out one action whilst having many intentions behind this action, so that they are rewarded abundantly for every intention. It is due to this that Ibn Kathir said,  “The intention reaches further than the action”.

Tajweed  Mushaf: You can get a new Mushaf (copy of the Qur’an), called Mushaf at-Tajweed, which has the rules of Tajweed incorporated in the text of the Qur’an in colour coding! This is very helpful as it prompts you as you go along. There is also a computer program you can buy with it which highlights Tajweed rules with recitation.   Try and apply the rules you learn to the Surahs you have already memorised and don’t become lazy about reciting correctly. You might have to revise the surahs by looking back at them.   Practice and repetition will make perfect in sha Allah: As Ibn al-Jazaree says in his poem about acquiring Tajweed: ‘And there is no obstacle between it (learning Tajweed) and leaving it, except that a person must exercise his mouth with it!’. And always remember “And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember; then is there anyone who will remember (or receive admonition)?” [Quran al-Qamar 54:17].

HELPFUL TIPS TOWARDS LEARNING TAJWEED:

HELPFUL TIPS TOWARDS LEARNING  TAJWEED : You must find a Qur’an teacher who has studied Tajweed to listen to your quran recitation and correct you. Tajweed cannot merely be learnt from books, because the movements of your mouth, as well as the sounds, are important and only a teacher can correct you and make sure you are applying the rules correctly. Sometimes local Mosques will run classes. Qur’an recitation is a science which was passed down generation by generation through teachers, not just books, with a direct line to the Prophet (peace be upon him)   Find a book containing the rules of Tajweed and learn each rule little by little, applying it as you go along with the help of your teacher. There are many concise Arabic books and in English there are some books as well as tapes to help. Look for books with some drawings showing you how to pronounce each letter.   Listen to Qur’an tapes of reciters who recite very clearly, at a medium or slow speed (like Sheikh Hudhaify or Sheikh

Qur’an is the word of Allah

We should put all our efforts into reciting the Qur’an with as much feeling as we can! Have you ever prayed behind an Imam who read with feeling? Well the Prophet (peace be upon him) said “Truly the one who has one of the finest voices among the people for reciting the Qur’an is the one whom you think fears Allah when you hear him recite.” And once when the Prophet (peace be upon him) complimented Abu Moosaa al-Ash’ari on the beauty of his recitation, Abu Moosaa said “Had I known you were there, I would have made my voice more pleasant and emotional for you.”   Let us remember, that the Qur’an is the word of Allah. In it we find exhortations, warnings, glad-tidings, parables, stories of the past, commands and prohibitions. Aayaat to make us think, reflect, cry, fear, hope, love, fall down in prostration! How can we recite all of this without feeling!?  When we recite an aayah of Qur’an we should imagine that we are trying to feel and convey the full message behind that aayah. Perha

RECITING THE QURAN MELODIOUSLY:

And the majority of scholars agree that applying the Tajweed rules of Qur’an such that the Clear Mistakes are avoided is an individual obligation (Fard ‘Ayn) upon every   Muslim   who has memorized the Qur’an . As for applying all of the rules of Tajweed and avoiding the Unobvious mistakes then it is (Fard Kifaayah) upon the Muslim ummah.  That is, there must be some students of knowledge who have knowledge of that. This is because the Qur’an was revealed with the Tajweed rules applied to it and the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited it back to Jibreel in that way and the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) read it in that way, so it is an established Sunnah.   RECITING THE QUR AN MELODIOUSLY: The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite the Qur’an in slow, measured, rhythmic tones as Allah had instructed him, not hurriedly, but rather “he would recite a surah in such slow rhythmic tones that it would be longer than it would seem possible.” He would stop at the end of ea

THE RULING OF READING WITH TAJWEED:

At the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) there was no need for people to study Tajweed because they talked with what is now known as Tajweed, so it was natural for them. When the Arabs started mixing with the non-Arabs and as Islam spread, mistakes in the Quranic recitation began to appear, so the scholars had to record the rules. Now, because the everyday Arabic that Arabs speak has changed so much from the Classical Arabic with which the Quran was revealed, even the Arabs have to study Tajweed.   THE RULING OF READING WITH  TAJWEED : Muhammad bin Al-Jazaree the great  Qur’an  and Hadeeth scholar of the 9th Century (Hijri) says in his famous poem detailing the rules of Tajweed:”And applying Tajweed is an issue of absolute necessity, whoever doesn’t apply Tajweed to the Qur’an, then a sinner is he.”   Sheikh Zakariyyaa Al-Ansari [died in 926 H.] said in explanation of this verse in his book: Sharh al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyaa “It is required to observe all of the Arabic rules i

WHAT ARE THE TAJWEED RULES?

The most important part of Tajweed is learning about correct positions of the organs of speech and the manner of articulation. The Qur’an can lose its meaning if the letters are not pronounced correctly. The Arabic word Tajweed linguistically means ‘proficiency’ or ‘doing something well’. It comes from the same root letters as the word Jayyid, which means ‘good’.  When applied to the Quran, it means giving every letter of the Quran its rights and dues of characteristics when we recite the Quran , and observing the rules that apply to those letters in different situations. We give the letters their rights by observing the essential characteristics of each letter. We give them their dues by observing the characteristics of each letter that are present in them some of the time and not present at other times.   The Quran was revealed with Tajweed rules applied to it. In other words, when the angel Jibreel (Gabriel), may Allah exalt his mention, recited the words of Allah to the Prophet

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TAJWEED?

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TAJWEED?   GENERAL VIEW: And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all that exists, and may prayers of blessings and peace be upon the messenger of Allah. The Noble  Quran  is the literal words of Allah that He revealed as an infallible source of legislation for mankind to live an organised life by. It contains regulations and recommendations about all aspects of life and references to the Hereafter. Being so important, the Quran must be read, written, and recited correctly and clearly, so as not to create any sort of ambiguity or misunderstanding whatsoever. Allah Almighty addressed His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him).   When Islam was being spread (and it was done so at a very quick pace and also into non-Arab speaking countries) not everyone’s tongue was accustomed to the Arabic letters and sounds. Thus, when reciting the Qur’an, much error and distortion occurred and the Muslim scholars feared (the perpetration of) that error and distortion.

Know that hifdh al-Qur’an is the first step to seeking knowledge

Know that hifdh al-Qur’an is the first step to seeking knowledge A Muslim can never attain knowledge of any science from the sciences of the Shari’ah without Qur’an, for the Qur’an opens up for you the doors to knowledge – indeed it opens up for you the doors to all goodness in this world and the Next.   Qur’an, then this should urge you to  memorize the Qur’an  from start to finish so that you may reach the highest levels of Paradise. May Allah make us and you from the people of Qur’an. 15- Envision the delights of Paradise and the Punishment of the Hellfire If you knew that the Qur’an is a cause for your salvation from the punishment of the grave and a cause for your salvation from the punishment of the Hellfire… rather if you knew that on the Day of Judgment you will rise and ascend through the ranks of Paradise. Beloved brothers and sisters, Learn the Qur’an before it’s lifted from the Pages and the Hearts. Source: the book (causes-that-aid-in-the-memorization-of-the-qur-an) in s

Do not prioritise anything over the Qur’an

Qiyam al-Lail (the Night Prayer) The night prayer, particularly in the last third of the night, is at a blessed time wherein Allah `azza wa jall, descends to the lower heaven in a manner befitting His Majesty and He calls to His slaves – as is reported in the Sahihayn – ‘Who will call upon Me so I can answer him? 12- Penalise yourself for shortcomings If you fall short from your memorisation or daily  recitation of Qur’an,  then penalise yourself with something from the mubahaat (permissible) for example by fasting, night prayer and charity. Who will ask Me so I can give him? Who will seek My forgiveness so I can forgive him?’ So ask your Lord, `azza wa jall, to forgive your sins and to honour you with memorisation of His Book.   11- Do not prioritise anything over the Qur’an If you embark on seeking knowledge, start first of all by reviewing the portion of Qur’an which you’ve memorised, then after that, busy yourself with the rest of the sciences so that you do not prioritise the sc

Reading the Tafseer of the verses you wish to memorize

Reading the Tafseer of the verses you wish to memorize From the things which assist you in hifdh is that you read the tafseer (exegesis) of the verses that you want to memorize quran because understanding its meaning will give concrete to it in the mind.   6- Gradual progression in hifdh You must have gradual progression in hifdh al-Qur’aan, and not to hasten in memorization until you are able to do so – so do not burden your soul with more than it can take. Rather you must choose a portion which you are able to memorise every day and do not go over that limit.   7- Adhere to a proficient Shaykh with whom you memorise This is an extremely important matter so that you can memorise Qur’aan without mistakes. Were you to memorise the Qur’an on your own then perhaps you might err in the recitation of some verses and were you to memorise it like that (with those mistakes), then it’s difficult to correct them.   8- Adhering to one mushaf (copy of the Qur’aan) From the things that will ai

The Noble Qur'an

The Noble Qur'an is like a crop/plantation, it does not grow except in good, fertile soil. As for land that is salty or deprived, then no product will come forth and if some things do come out, then they will not grow and if they do grow, they will not produce fruit and even if they do produce fruit, it will not be of good quality.  So the Qur’aan will not grow or produce fruit except in a good, pure and righteous heart. Due to this, it is incumbent upon the student of Qur’aan that he should be clean and pure from these bad characteristics and adorn himself with good, honourable and generous characteristics like truthfulness, honesty, sincerity, and in a nutshell, all that faith requires.   3- Dedicating a specific time for Hifdh From the things that will aid you in the memorization of Qur'an is that you dedicate a specific time towards hifdh and you inform your brothers/sisters that you will be busy during this time so that no-one can preoccupy you from your hifdh.   4- H

HOW TO MEMORISE THE QURAN EASILY? 15 STEPS

HOW TO MEMORISE THE QURAN EASILY? 15 STEPS   “And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember, but is there any that  will remember?” [al-Qamar: 17]   Indeed, reciting the Qur’aan and memorising it has benefits that cannot be counted. There are causes and reasons that aid us in memorising the Qur’an. The following are the most important ones:   1- Du’aa Du’aa is from the greatest causes that will aid you in memorisation because as the beloved, the chosen one (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) has said, “Du’aa is worship.” And ordered us to have (certainty) that the du’aa will be answered. He said, “Call unto Allaah in certainty and know that Allaah does not answer the heedless and inattentive heart.” So, increase in du’aa – that Allaah `azza wa jall makes you from the people of Qur’aan, because as it is said, ‘whoever persists knocking at the door, it’s bound to open for him.   2- Cleansing of the soul from bad akhlaaq Learning the Qur’aan is worship of the heart, pr

The Quran includes all the sciences of this World and the Hereafter, the stories of ancestors and successors. It includes many of the scientific, cosmic, legislative and medical facts, and it includes also provisions, laws and legislation that regulate the life of a believer and make him much happier. This means that when you memorize the Quran, you memorize the largest encyclopedia.   When you memorize the Quran, your expressing ability will be stronger because of the classic Arabic you acquire from the Quran. You will have more ability for dealing, endurance and patience, because memorizing the Quran is not only like memorizing a poem, a story, or a song. However, when you memorize the Quran, in fact you are changing your attitude towards everything around you, and thus your behavior will be following what you have memorized Our Lady Aysha (May Allah be pleased with her) was asked about the ethics of the Prophet and she said, “His ethics was the Quran”!!    Role Model: It goes without saying that you’ll be a model for your children  to follow as you’ve achieved or are working on what you’ve been encouraging them to do. Think of the example you’d be setting for your children, especially your daughters, particularly in a society that invests more in boys when it comes to Quran.   You’ll also be a true role model for other Muslim women, single and married alike. Allaah and His messenger made you superior to others, singled you out as the best person, and crowned you as the epitome of envy. Why wouldn’t anyone want to be like you?!   Whether you are single or married, a mom of one child or eight, memorizing Quran IS for you and IS achievable. With dua, sincerity, and a positive attitude, you will be successful because Allah’s promise is true.   Conclusion: Since the Quran is the word of Allah Almighty, when you memorize it , this will be the best you ever done! memorized the Qur’an

Allah rewards a person according to their intention and sincerety so if one is sincere and intends to learn the Qur’an and dies whilst doing so then it maybe that Allah may raise such a person amongst those who actually memorized the Qur’an. Subahanallah!   19- One of the miracles of the Quran is that Allaah   made it easy for us to memorize,  as He, subhaanahu wa ta’aala, said: وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember? [Al-Qamar:17,22,32,40] This verse repeats four times in the same chapter. The fact that the verses of the Quran are so articulate and can never be reproduced by the most eloquent of poets and writers, but yet can be memorized from cover to cover is proof that Allah has indeed made it easy.   Nonetheless, there are instances when memorization can be difficult, such as being exposed to Quran and Arabic for the first time after childhood, or

This is even more auspicious in a time when the chests of the young men and women have become filled with that which is silly and forbidden.   17- Jannah for the one who memorized the Qur’an . Hadrat Ali (RA) reports that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Anyone who knows the Quran by heart and follows the lawful and the prohibited according to it, he will be sent to Heaven by Allah U.” (Tirmidhi). As long as the memoriser of the Qur’an following the lawful and kept away from the prohibited then he will be granted Jannah.    18- Double reward for those who try hard to memorize   the Qur’an .  Aaishah that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) said: The likeness of the one who reads Quraan and memorizes it is that he is with the righteous honourable scribes. It is sufficient for your son and daughter to be proud that they are carrying the Words of the Lord of all that exists in their chests. 15- Safety of the heart from destruction .
